My students are amazing young individuals. They come from low income neighborhoods and still manage to come to school everyday, ready to learn. Many of them travel over an hour on NYC transit to get to school. My school is in one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in Brooklyn and most of them don't live anywhere near it. Still, they come to school prepared and eager to work. My school is a co-located school, there are three other schools upstairs. The walls are painted with bright colored paint to foster student growth and the walls are lined with college flags and student work. My classroom is very bright and cheery. I have rubrics and student work on every wall. There are history-related quotes on the cabinets and student written constitutions taking up the other space. I have two class sets of textbooks, one for global and one for US history, the only books I have for the semester. My students read documents I have printed and use them to enrich their understanding of the topic.
