While many students have the opportunity to check out laptops for use during the school year, my 7th and 8th graders do not have access to this program and won't until they reach high school. In a technology focused world, students who do not have the financial capability to purchase wireless devices on their own, are often left behind in the race to acquire tech-savy skills. I have taken professional development courses that have given me the skills to teach science, assess students, and incorporate more project-based learning into the classroom but what I am missing - is technology that will allow students to use these amazing programs online, during class. I always tell my students to "aim high" or "shoot for the moon" because if you never ask, you'll never know...and so here I am. Please consider funding this project for my science classroom, helping us act as environmentally responsible members of our community but most importantly - helping my students have access to technology and applications that are not supported by any devices we currently have access to.
