After a year apart, I aim to focus on my students' social and emotional skills this year and assist them in rebuilding strong peer relationships with each other. With their own copy of Wonder, my students are able to be active participants in our class readings and discussions about inclusion and diversity. As a new fifth grade teacher, I am working to rebuild an appropriate classroom library for my students. While researching, Wonder by R.J. Palacio caught my attention as an engaging core literature book with themes of discrimination and kindness, as told through various points of view. Discussing these important themes provides my students with opportunities to think critically about their responsibilities as role models in our school community. Providing individual copies for my students allows them to follow along during read alouds, as well as practice their own independent reading skills.
