Students of varying abilities and needs inhabit my classroom, but there is one thing that each of my students could benefit from: alternative seating. Therefore, I would love to make a “Creative Corner” with multiple seating options for students to use as they participate in different forms of learning. Donating to this project would create a comfortable space for students where they have a choice in their learning environment; providing alternative seating options would motivate students to be more focused and productive learners—plus, it would make learning fun! We all know that students tend to get antsy because they spend an extended period of time sitting in desks. At times, students need to be distanced from others in order to work more productively, and other times, students simply need alternative seating to relieve restlessness and be more focused. Not only will the Creative Corner serve as a safe space and resolve both of these issues, but it can also be used as a place for centers. When a student or students finish a task before others, they would be able to go to the Creative Corner where they may participate in ELA related centers. These centers would involve the practice and construction of things, such as poetry, grammar, writing, and interpreting literature. I fully believe that this Creative Corner will have a positive effect on students’ learning progress and their well-being as they adjust to being in a new, much larger school.
