A well-stocked library is a staple in any primary classroom. Having previously taught upper grades, my supply of first grade books is limited. I would love to provide my new students with an engaging set of reading materials to practice their developing skills. Author studies help develop a community of readers that form a close connection though their shared learning experience. It can also help students form a special bond with "their" author, which can make reading more fulfilling and enjoyable. By necessity, an author study requires a lot of reading. This gives students plenty of opportunities to develop their reading fluency, comprehension and critical thinking skills.
