My middle school students live in a poverty-stricken neighborhood in Washington DC. They face challenges on a daily basis, both at home and at school, that make it difficult for them to visualize their future as a happy, healthy one. 22% of students at our school are proficient in reading, and only 16% are proficient in math. Despite the challenges within their homes and neighborhoods these students are thirsty for knowledge! They are resilient, creative, outspoken, and thoughtful. They inspire me on a daily basis to provide them with more! More challenging content, more visual aids, more interactive lessons, role-plays, discussions, debates, guest speakers - you name it! I want to be able to give them a dynamic, exciting classroom experience everyday! Please help me by contributing to my projects and to the education of these incredible young people that deserve nothing less than the best!
