My classroom is full of the voices of students from 6 countries and the sounds of 7 languages fill it as we work together to learn another: English. The students have come from a wide range of educational and cultural backgrounds, but our classroom is one that values diversity and cooperation. Together my students strive to learn English and take advantage of the opportunities a public education gives them. Our classroom is in need quite often though. There are far more students than text books at about a ratio of 1 book to 3 students and pencils are always in short supply. We are in need of new tables, as ours are ready to collapse, and more computers to provide opportunities to build computer literacy. Despite this, the students are bright and excited to be in school. We make the best of the what we are given and the students have helped me create a truly special place.
