A beautiful classroom library is something that sets students up for success. I want my students to walk into the classroom and see a library filled with diverse and interesting books. I want all the children to be interested in multiple topics and motivated to explore the new titles. Once a child falls in love with reading, IDR is something they can look forward to. Once that happens, students are able to read recreationally and gain literary strategies faster than I can teach them. Some of our textbook literature is dry and informational since we are focusing on specific reading skills.
I want to give students the chance to read multiple titles per week and a chance to choose 3-5 books that pique their interest. These classroom bins and books will help me organize and create a classroom library for my students. This project will help my struggling readers find access to quality books, my avid readers a chance to explore, and everyone a chance to view reading as something other than "homework".
