Students enter my school counseling office mostly because they are in crisis or because they are participating in wellness groups. Students in crisis need a calm space to deescalate and get out their feelings. Students need fidget toys, stress balls, and drawing supplies to help them to channel their emotions so that they can be ready to go back to class. Middle school students, in particular, are learning how to manage their emotions and behaviors. Social Emotional Learning Activities that include building materials, games, and art projects will help them to connect to the lessons and improve their mental health.
