There is an urgent need for up to date technology in my classroom. I have 4 Chromebooks that are hit or miss when the students try to use them for AR testing, Compass Learning, or reinforcing a learned skill through Language Arts or Math games. Also there is always a line to use these. Being that my students are still 5 and 6, they have a hard time with waiting. 11 of my 19 students are taking independent AR tests. This time takes away from another group who may be at centers and choose to do Compass Learning or one of the other phonic games. At this point, I have to stop working with a small group to go over and remove someone from their chosen area. How do I decide who stays? Which is more important, AR tests or reinforcing/reteaching academic skills? Having iPods to serve as centers will alleviate this problem. I can set up independent AR testing on the Chromebooks, and still have my small groups actively engaged in visual learning. This will increase the number of AR test taken as well as promote one-on-one learning as some students in kindergarten still need.
