My students come to school every day full of excitement and ready to learn! Just like teachers get uncomfortable sitting through professional development in hard, uncomfortable chairs, students get uncomfortable sitting in a hard, uncomfortable chair as well! More flexible seating options in the classroom will enhance student learning and engagement. Research shows that students learn more when they are physically active and comfortable. Students can bounce on an exercise ball, wobble, sit, stand or kneel. All of these options will give my students the opportunity to sit comfortably and move around while learning. A small round table that sits low to the floor will be used with comfortable flex seats. The wobble chairs will be used for those students who want to sit on the stool to learn. Student engagement would significantly increase throughout the day due to this project. I want my students to feel at home and be comfortable in our classroom. I am looking forward to all of the things we can accomplish with flexible seating!
