According to the book, Game Changer! Book Access for All Kids, “the most effective summer reading programs put books into children’s hands before vacation begins. We need to help our families overcome issues preventing their children from reading during the summer.” A study was conducted for three years on summer book distribution programs and it was found that children who participated had lower summer reading loss, higher reading test scores and MOST importantly to me “A GREATER MOTIVATION AND INTEREST IN READING.” I am opening our media center this summer for book checkout, but nothing compares to seeing the smile on children’s faces as you send them home with their VERY OWN, KEEP FOREVER books!
