My students are an inquisitive group of students. They are also eager to learn to read and spell and do this independently. My students enjoy a variety of book titles and are attracted to books that we have read together or have movie titles. These children come from hard working and mostly low income families. However, many parents wish they could help their children, but they cannot because the English language is a barrier. Most of the children at our school are learning to read, write and speak in English as a second language.
