The school I work at was completely destroyed in 2011 by a tornado and rebuilt, but we are still using the desks left over from the tornado. When I first came to this school I was sent into a trailer where there weren't 2 matching desks or chairs, I actually had to go and snatch leftovers from other classrooms to create a decent teaching environment and as a result things tend to fall apart and there are students sitting on the floor. With your help, I can add sturdy tables to my classroom that will aid in the development of my students' 21st-century skills, which are so vital in this day and time. As a Read 180 teacher who has students that are not at a grade level reading, most of the work in my classroom is group based and project-based learning. Trying to teach someone to be passionate about reading, and wanting to better their chances to succeed in life is hard. Whiteboard tables will help with this aspect by allowing more room for the students to showcase, and develop their learning styles. For example, when students are given the task of creating stop motion videos to demonstrate learning of a reading or a new vocabulary word, these tables will allow my students write down in that instant their ideas and visually show their thinking process. Which will better help me as their teacher understand what problems need to be addressed. As part of the Read 180 program students also have to improve fluency in reading for which they will use the headphones with speakers to practice reading aloud as part of the program. As well as improving their comprehension skills they need to grow fond of books and reading, an area with beanbags will provide that needed motivation.
