While my scholars are diverse and many often have adverse childhood experiences, the literature available to me and my students is limited and hardly representative. Often times in the world of education there lacks representation of students' backgrounds, history, and culture. Books such as Hip Hop Speaks to Children, A Celebration of Poetry with a Beat and The Fiesta Dress: A Quinceanera will foster comprehension and show students that there are many ways to write a poem, or a story. Research supports that when students feel included in the curriculum and represented they feel happier, perform better, and have less behavioral issues arise.
