The Students at RCAA recently just got materials donated to their special education department for a sensory room. They are still in need of a few items such as punching bag, floor mats, aroma therapy machines, weighted lap starfish, and indoor swing hangers. The punching bag is to help students release their anger or frustration in a productive way. The students have indoor swings that have no way to be hung. The swings help give students an alternative place to do work. It allows students to move and work, which keeps them more focused. Students with autism often have specific sensory needs. The weighted lap stuffed animals help with this.
These materials will benefit the student population at RCAA with the highest needs. They will help make their special education room/sensory room a safe place to release energy and take care of their sensory needs. This will set the students up to be successful in their general education setting. Their special education room/sensory room helps give students outlets to release any anger, stress, or over stimulation in a productive and safe way.
