At our CTE school, students pick one of seventeen programs to focus on for their future career and take specific classes focused on building skills related to that field. Their dedication to their craft is impressive, to put it mildly. Each month, we pick an "Employee of the Month" to highlight in each of the 3 academies of CTE fields we have here: Information and Engineering Technology; Construction Manufacturing, and Automotive Technology; and Human and Health Services. These students blow us away every day by their professionalism in the classroom and at competitions, even in our first year being open! We have a student population of 62.8% Hispanic and 33.3% African American. My school is in inter-city Houston, Texas and we serve 79% of students who are identified as "at-risk", which generally puts them into a free lunch program. But most importantly, they are full of potential for greatness!
