My school is a high-poverty urban elementary school in Minnesota and my students are English language learners in grades 2-5. Some of my students are born in America to immigrant parents, others are new to the country. They are from around the world--Haiti, Mexico, Ecuador, Togo, Somalia, Laos, Ethiopia, Kenya, and China, to name a few. Many have struggled and are struggling with hardships in their lives. They are bright, caring, inspiring, resilient, hilarious and full of potential. They are the reason I love teaching.
