2018 is a strange year to be a student. It's a pivotal year; as issues of human rights have come into question across the American political landscape, educating our young people on topics and principles of social justice is of the utmost importance. These texts will be used to created themed units in which students will practice content specific skills in addition to building critical consciousness. These texts were chosen because they are engaging, culturally responsive, and have differing lexile levels. Because this set of texts has a range of complexity, each student will be able to engage with the literature in a way that is appropriate to their ability.
