My students are in grades Kindergarten through six in the city of Detroit. Our school is an arts integrated/infused school, meaning we use the arts to facilitate learning in the core subject areas. We are also building arts programs to support this. We have started orchestra and all students participate in various concerts throughout the year. In Detroit, there are very few string programs left. I want to be a part of keeping strings alive by starting a string program at my school. We want to do this with no cost to the families considering 92% of our student population qualifies for free and reduced lunch. Our school believes in creating a "joy factor" that is huge. We want our students to have fun during school and after school. We want to keep our students inspired to be great artists until they graduate. Additionally, we want to get them involved in the community using performance as a tool.
