I teach high school history in a poverty and violence stricken urban neighborhood. Many of my students deal with unstable home lives, poor nutrition, and the deaths of loved ones to gun violence. And yet, they come to school every day, willing and even excited to learn, ready to make the best of everything and to meet their academic challenges. My students are vibrant people: they are creative and extremely active, so having the tools for an active and creative learning experience is essential.
