A troublesome picture is painted for the children of our county. Currently 80.97% of our students receive free or reduced lunch, an indicator of poverty. The problem is that many students in our district do not have access to appropriate technology and cultural exposure at home. Many parents and guardians are not financially able to provide the necessary media for our children to be well prepared for this digital age. The problem is caused by high unemployment as well as poverty. In this isolated rural area, many children have lack of parental support and parents do not have the time nor the resources to culturally educate their children. Ben Franklin once said, "Tell me and I forget, teach me and I may remember, involve me and I learn." Raising student academic achievement will always be a top priority for our district.
