I plan to use the instruments from this project with students to enrich the music curriculum for all of the 1st graders at my school. We will learn more of the vocabulary of music, create rhythms, perform together, and incorporate dance and movement in our music classes. The Deluxe 25 Player Bamboo Rhythm Kit includes an assortment of percussion instruments to get students moving, learning how to create rhythms and having fun with music as a group. Students will use the instruments to create their own songs, melodies, and beats as well as learn to play along to songs they already love to sing. Students love learning and creating melodies, and playing an instrument helps students to develop listening skills, self-confidence and persistence. The Soprano Recorder Value Bundle 25-Pack will be used by students to learn the basics of playing the recorder. I hope that the book Musical Improvisation for Children will become a resource that helps me and the teachers in 1st grade at my school develop lessons and activities to encourage our 1st graders in their appreciation of music! The instruments, including the Rhythm Kit and Recorders, will also become part of our exploration of science and engineering by making observations about sounds and how they are created. Our instruments will provide examples for us when we engineer our own instruments using recycled materials (boxes, rubber bands, PVC pipe, cardboard tubes, and more!) Hopefully, the instruments will help inspire students in my class and in 1st grade at my school to appreciate music and gain confidence as performers, singers and musicians.
