The future of education is not telling students how to learn, but rather giving them the tools they need to explore learning in their own way. Having my students explore the world of flexible seating within my classroom will give them the power of choice for the physical space of their classroom. We currently have some flexible seating in our library and my kids thrive off of it. The power of flexible, comfortable seating will also continue to make our classroom community to build through creative collaboration. They will share their tools and supplies more efficiently while working in small groups throughout the day. With flexible seating, my classroom environment will be conducive to open collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking. Providing my 22 first graders with the choice and mobility they need with their physical space will help them to stay focused on their tasks while working with their peers. When students are uncomfortable, they are easily distracted. With comfortable seating such as the wobble chairs, recliner chairs, and floor cushions, my little ones will stay calm, focused, and productive. I will then use the foam mats to fill in the empty spaces so students can utilize every inch of the room to sit around and gather together. These will also help to make our learning fun, which means I will have a relaxed, engaged group of students that are ready to take on the world!
