This year, my school district created a new position titled Pandemic Intervention and Acceleration Teacher. The goal of this position is to work with students with two goals in mind. One goal is to assists students who have fallen behind due to the pandemic and need intervention services. The second goal is to accelerate students who are ready to be pushed to more challenging levels, but haven't been able to make those gains due to their pandemic learning situation (home school, online learning, hybrid, etc.). This is a unique position as it has never been done before, and requires the ability to reach students across multiple different learning styles and at multiple different academic levels. I have created a list of items that will help my students in many different ways. There are regular classroom supplies to make sure our classroom is always stocked. I have added even more inclusive books than my students already have access to so I can ensure every student sees themselves represented in my room. Additionally, I have added math and reading materials to reach every learner, and flexible seating options to address any physical and/or emotional needs. I am extremely excited and honored to be taking on this position, but I know it will take an immense amount of help to make sure my students are engaged and ready to learn!
