My students are 1st graders in a bilingual classroom, where 80 percent of the instruction is done in Spanish. Many of my students are immigrants from Central America and South America, or their are children of immigrants. All of my students speak Spanish as their first language. My students attend a community school in California, in a poor and urban area of the city and they don't always have a lot of access to books in their homes, especially in Spanish. I lend out my own books to students to take home so they can continue reading after the school day has ended. Above all, my students love to read and they love to write! They always ask for more time to read and they have almost exhausted the books I have for them in our classroom library. For this reason, I want to provide my voracious readers with more books.
