In my classroom, my students work hard! My students all have IEPs and my school provides a small, therapeutic environment with access to clinical staff so students can work on the tough stuff--both academic and emotional. I know reading and writing are difficult for my kids, so I put all my effort into giving students the tools, time, and feedback so they can improve. Our school does not have a library, and many of my students have little access to public libraries, so I have spent a lot of time and money building a classroom library so my students can learn in a literacy-rich environment. I know my students face many challenges--family life, bullying, mental health, learning struggles, social deficits, etc.--and I am always on the lookout for strategies to help them become productive citizens of their communities and our world.
