With a limited amount of sports for our urban high school, UACHS wishes to start an archery club to provide alternatives to after school sports. Ms. Liggett is already certified as a Basic Archery Instructor (BAI) through NASP, but it only a matter of getting the start up costs and materials ready.
I want to fulfill my dream of starting an archery team at my school to train the next generation of archers! There are already 50+ students that want to join this club and have laid out the structure to our club's wants and needs. We plan to meet during the Winter sports season, from September to February starting in the next school year once a week in the Multipurpose Room/ Cafeteria between 3:00 - 4:30 PM. With the supplies funded through DonorsChoose, we will set up and take down each week a screen (to catch arrows), quivers, a shooting line, targets, and a bow rack (to hang our bows between shots). These materials will be stored and locked behind the food service area in a closet, and monitored daily.
After 2-3 years of running the archery club, we might initiate an archery team that will also meet after school to go to city, state, and (if possible!) national competitions in Kentucky.
There are multiple affiliations in the immediate and state wide level that can also be reached out to and referenced that we are already affiliated with. Jersey City Archery, the New Jersey Archery Association, and Ms. Liggett’s alma mater high school, are wonderful resources that also urge for our school to start this unique club!
