The students in my class need a carpet to meet at whenever we are learning. This carpet has calming colors, rather than bright colors that may over-stimulate sensitive learners. The calming colors will help my students to stay focused rather than distracted. This size carpet will also make sure that I can fit all of my students, even in years to come, while providing a visual for personal body space. Since my students are in kindergarten, many of them do not understand yet how to leave enough room between themselves and those around them when sitting on a carpet. The squares on this carpet will help them to learn that skill.
We need a place to hold our morning meeting, talk about our day, and come together at various points to learn from each other each day. This carpet will be used multiple times a day by my students and will help to ground us to our learning and personal space. This investment will be used not only this school year, but in the many years that are to come in my teaching career.
