Many of my students don't have access to shampoo and conditioner, body soap, deodorant or toothbrushes and toothpaste at home, while some of them don't have the full understanding of how to keep themselves clean. They come to school uncomfortable, knowing that they haven't been able to properly clean themselves. If we have these products accessible at school, students will have the opportunity to utilize them at any time during the day to get cleaned up and feel more confident in themselves. Personal hygiene is a life skill my students must have to be successful in the community. In order to help my students with personal hygiene, I am requesting shampoo, conditioner, body soap, and lotion to have in my classroom, readily accessible to hand out as my students need them. We have access to a shower and are frequently giving students the opportunity to shower at school, since some don't have that access at home. I am also requesting laundry soap in order to be used with our classroom washer and dryer. We utilize this daily in instruction, teaching our students to wash classroom towels or even their own clothing as many don't have a washer and dryer at home. Doing laundry is a life skill that my students need to help them gain independence.
