Edward C Reed High School is a perfect reflection of the Reno/Sparks community; it is diverse in every way. My classroom matches that description I have students who are recent immigrates to the United States, native Nevadans and Native Americans. Students in my class represent the wide disparity in social economic status seen in Reno, from wealthy children of Tech boom growth to those who move from hotel to hotel regularly. Despite the vast diversity, Reed High School is a tight knit community of students and staff who work to lift each other up and support each others needs. My students are a part of a career readiness academy that emphasizes real-world job skills, knowledge and experiences. Students learn about engineering, biomedical and health and human services through service learning, internships, class projects and national competitions.
