Local history is a jumping-off point for young historians. When students learn the history of their own backyard, they want to dive deeper! The history of San Francisco is fascinating, and what's more... it's in the third grade standards! However, our history textbooks are outdated and only include surface information about San Francisco's rich and intriguing past. We need resources to bring the history of San Francisco to life in the classroom. A set of photo books showing the progression of each San Franciscan neighborhood will allow my students to travel back in time to see how the places they know evolved along with the communities that created them. We will connect to the photos we've analyzed while taking field trips, and work on a journaling project using the photos as our guide. Help my students understand the background of their city by donating to our project!
