My students are bright, curious seventh graders, many of whom are living in poverty. Too many of my students have never found books they love, nor have they made quiet, independent reading a regular part of their daily lives. They would greatly benefit from new books to help motivate them to complete their weekly independent reading homework. A majority of my students read two years or more below grade level, and regular practice is what they need to bring them up to grade level.
