My students come from many countries all around the world. They are coming with varying levels of education and a very limited understanding of the English language. I am one of many who is responsible for teaching them English. I am required to use grade-level text, which is quite a challenge. In order for this to happen, my students need manipulatives and visuals. Some of these items include; sticky notes, Expo Markers, colored paper, stickers, LEGO Bricks, pocket charts, and a wall calendar. We also need the velcro strips and the masking tape in order to hang and create anchor charts. My students benefit greatly from supports that help them regulate their emotions such as; the fidget toys, window film, answer buzzers, and the cupcake cut-outs. Our district was recently taken over by the state. Our particular building has absolutely no money for supplies or supports. Because of this, I need assistance in purchasing the materials necessary for meeting both the literacy and social-emotional needs of my students.
