Our students work to manage anxiety and stress from traumatic childhood experiences. When feeling overwhelmed, they are encouraged to calm themselves in the Calming Corner. The donation of weighted stuffed animals will be a beneficial tool to add to the Calming Corner. The goal of the stuffed animals is to sooth students and help them get ready to learn again. Students use the school’s Wellness Center to learn Calming strategies and use creative tools to manage their anxiety and stress. By providing similar tools in the classroom, they can practice their strategies closer to where academic instruction is taking place, getting them back to work sooner.
