Many of my students do not have access to appropriately leveled books in their respective homes. Therefore, they are either reading books that are too easy, getting discouraged with books that are too hard or not reading at all. Continued practice with just the right books is what propels kids forward.
I hope to create positive reading experiences for my children. Through this project, all of my children will have access to books they love and this will hopefully help sustain a love of reading and learning!
All students will have access to book bags that they will take home on a weekly basis. These bags will be at their level and include a few challenge books! Once the students have spent a week with the books in their bag, they will return their books to school and get new books! Students will be constantly exposed to appropriate books. This will build a great home-school connection as parents and students alike will know that the books in their bags are things they can read!
As students become familiar with the books at the level, they will begin to advance in their reading skills. The more reading practice students get, the more confident they become. Confidence goes a long way with young readers! I believe these bags will really make a difference for all of my students.
