I teach at an open enrollment charter school in southeast Louisiana. Over 98% of my students receive free or reduced lunch and many come from challenging socio-economic backgrounds, additionally my students make up part of the high special education population at our school. All of my students have already been identified as being 3 years or more behind their peers academically. Not a single one of these factors ever gets them down; they are willing to give it all they have to be successful, and myself and the rest of our awesome school are willing to do the same. In addition to academic challenges my students often lack the resources and tools that are necessary for them to access curriculum and classroom environments. My goal is to give them every tool and opportunity to allow them the ability to access the same materials and environment as their peers.
