My students attend an inner-city high school in Michigan where I have had to purchase all of my own classroom supplies. The majority of the students receive free and reduced lunch. Many of their families are on welfare and receive assistance from the state. They have so much potential, but many people over look them because of where they come from. Many people think they are a lost cause, what is the most saddening about that is that the students themselves think they are a lost cause. However, they are finding that this is not the case and that not everyone thinks of them this way and that there are people out there that believe in them and believe in the dreams and goals that they have so their confidences are growing and with that they seek opportunities for them to be creative, to be expressive, to continue to build confidence by performing in front of peers, to learn how to express emotions they often hide.
