Several times a week I teach double classes, in which I have about 60 students. I can comfortably fit 46 students seated at desks. This leaves about 15 students without a space to work. Each week these students are left to work on the floor in different corners of the room hunched over their laptops on the floor. Many of these students are English Language Learners and many have IEPs to work through their learning disabilities. This environment is definitely not conducive to learning. These lap desks will enable my students to work on their laptops and their projects both safely (because the laptops do not sit directly on their laps) and with comfort. It is not their fault that scheduling issues have placed them in an oversized classroom-- I just want to give them the best chance at success.
