Having grasped their love for art within the curriculum, I developed It's Art Time as a lunchtime art club to further embrace their love for art. These students choose to attend during their lunch time, where they focus on completing character education based art projects, growth mindset posters, random acts of kindness gifts, and free-choice art time to fulfill their own artistic needs for the day. While creating through drawing, painting, and coloring, these students are engaging socially, self-regulating their behaviors, releasing anxious minds, and overall enjoying themselves while being a member of this artistic club. Having access to paints, metallic mediums, colored pencils, paper, etc., and then being allowed to make personal choices of how they want to use these supplies, provides them with a therapeutic outlet to express themselves. All of the art supplies for our project will be used in various different projects planned throughout the year. The students will take home some of the projects to keep for themselves, but will also be making choices regarding how to share their creativity with others through posters, cards, and small gifts.
