We are living in very uncertain times, and the last thing parents should need to worry about is if their children have the basic writing and art materials they need to engage in at-home learning. Over 90% of students in our school come from low-income backgrounds, and many families have lost income due to COVID-19. These materials will ensure that every student in my class has the tools they need to learn from home. Not all remote learning happens in front of a computer; our curriculum still includes activities done on paper, which gives students the much-needed literacy and fine-motor practice they need at this age. These kits will be used in literacy practice, art, and math activities, and the reusable write wipe pockets allow students to use a resource more than once without having to re-print it. Our school is dedicated to ensuring that all students have the opportunity to participate in our classroom communities, even if they do not have reliable access to the internet, so written materials are used to engage students regardless of their digital status.
