For my sophomore and junior level students, each class will start with reading a book they love and that they get to choose so that they can become lifelong readers. But right now, there aren't enough texts that kids might love in our classroom library--students' main source for independent reading materials! Many of the books available in our small library now are either outdated, beaten up, or not representative of my students' identities and experiences. Because student choice is key to reigniting a love for reading and learning, it is crucial for kids to see more options and feel like they have a true choice. By supporting this class library expansion project, you are directly contributing to rekindling a love for reading that will stay with students well beyond high school.
