All children deserve to read wonderfully-written and captivating books. My students deserve the opportunity to get lost in a book. These books will help create a library for our classroom where the children will look forward to reading every day. They have been chosen according to their interests and with a diversity of reading levels to support the wide range of readers that I have in my classroom. This is my first year as a 5th grade teacher, and my second year teaching in the district. So, this is why I have a desperate need to build a library. Currently, the only books I have are for guided reading groups, but we do not have any for independent reading. A few of the students bring in reading books that their parents have bought for them, but most of my kids are from under-privileged homes where the parents do not speak English and struggle to make ends meet. They most certainly can't afford to buy books for their children.
My 5th graders tell me how much they love fortnite and minecraft, and I want them to feel that way about books.
Please help me inspire my students to fall in love with reading!
