My first-grade students are at a very unique school where they are not able to receive additional funding from the school district and government, but still have a fairly large population of high need students. Due to this unique struggle, the school attempts to raise funds through their parent community but only raise enough to provide some aides, a librarian, and music teacher for the students. All other resources so crucial to a student's engagement and successful learning are up to the teacher to provide.
I firmly believe that engaging books that meet each of my students' reading needs are necessary for students to grow as readers and even writers from a young age. But as it is my first year teaching first grade, I need to create a classroom library out of scratch. Please join me as I build a classroom library that will excite every student!
You will find popular books of varying levels in the 1st-2nd grade reading level in the list as well as some storage bins to promise an organized and easily accessible library. The book bins will be used for each individual student to decorate and collect their reading books to enjoy during Reading Workshop every day!
