My students are of lower socioeconomic status and we have an extremely high percentage of free and reduced-price lunches. Many of them come from truly broken homes with many having a single parent to support them and many are being raised by grandparents. To give my kiddos these choices in class gives them a safe homelike feeling that they may not otherwise have.
