"Don't Be Anybody, Be Somebody." This has been my room motto since I first began teaching. This year, however, one student spoke up and confidently stated, "Ms. G, I am somebody!" At first I was taken aback, but I quickly realized that my student's public affirmation was not a remark in defiance. My student was not missing my point, rather it was my message that had been missing something. I promptly confirmed, "Yes! You are indeed a somebody." I then added, "Now, lets be spectacular."
