"I never teach my students. I only provide the conditions in which they can learn." --- Albert Einstein. Our Severely Handicapped (Autism) class is only on its second school year; and there are still many materials that our classroom needs. Materials matter! As much as how resourceful we can be and make do of the materials that we have, we are really hopeful that we would get the things that we find most helpful to our students such as writing materials (easels, pads, pencil grips, pre-writing resources, etc.,) Moreover, most of my students have sensory processing issues; and sensory materials like fidgets, deep pressure vests, tactile/sensory balls are just few of the things that the students could use to regulate their sensory needs. My students have so much love and joy for learning; and these materials would do so much to cultivate that overflowing enthusiasm they have. Also, we can only provide meaningful learning experiences when we have relevant and appropriate materials. As was said, materials do matter!
