Independent reading increases student joy, feelings of autonomy, and overall ELA outcomes. This starter library will allow my students to read books written by people who look like them. For too long, classroom libraries have NOT been curated for the students who use them! My students have to face so many obstacles inside and outside school -- reading increases mindfulness, relieves stress, and gives students tools to succeed in whatever life path they choose. Other items will help me support my students in integrating these diverse perspectives into our blended learning model.
