My students need multi-sensory materials in order to engage them in social and academic activities. They are learning to play and communicate with their peers and teachers. Learning to sit at a table and work on a task is also a goal for the majority of the students in my class. These materials are also used as high motivators in order to encourage communication. When students enjoy an activity they are more likely to request it. Requesting is an important skill my students are developing. Some are verbally requesting and others use picture exchange to communicate their wants and needs.
