Providing my students with high-quality books written in Spanish will strengthen their biliteracy and bicultural skills. The stories written by Francisco Jimenez and Pam Muñoz are not only written in Spanish, but are also relatable to the life experiences of my students and the community they live in. I strongly believe my students should have the opportunity to read exceptional books in Spanish, and to be empowered by the literature written by authors who share a similar background as theirs. Doing so will encourage them to continue developing their Spanish and English reading skills, and will also validate their identity as bilingual scholars.
